Located on the footpath to the beach The Old Tea Hut is a fabulous place for a short break, whatever the time of year. It is a great spot for surfers, walkers and birdwatchers, and a perfect base from which to explore the hidden charms of the Rame Peninsula, or simply to relax and enjoy the view.
The Old Tea Hut was first built in the 1920s, and was the hub of the local community for many years. The property became a private house in the 1980s and was lived in by the same family until the present owners purchased it in 2008. It has undergone a programme of refurbishment, but retains much of its character and charm. The accommodation can be flexibly arranged to suit your needs. There is a double bedroom with sea views, a small twin, and a spacious room with twin lock divan beds which can either be a queen sized double or two 3ft single beds. There is also a comfortable double sofa bed in the sitting room area, and a beautiful conservatory with comfy bench seats, lots of cushions and the most fabulous view. The kitchen is practical and clean, retro rather than state of the art - 1980's formica cupboards and worktops. It is spacious and well equipped, with a 4 ring electric cooker, plenty of cupboards, a microwave and a large fridge/freezer. No dishwasher, but a gorgeous view from the kitchen sink! It opens onto the dining/sitting room, which in turn opens onto to the conservatory, and out into the garden which has fantastic views and a gateway directly onto the path down to the beach There is an outhouse with washing machine and tumble dryer.
The property is halfway down a cliff path, looking out over Whitsand bay and the Rame Peninsula. The beach offers great swimming and surfing, and is lifeguarded during the summer months. The cliffs are dotted with an eclectic mixture of picturesque holiday chalets and shacks, many of which have been owned by the same families for years. There is a labyrinth of footpaths and you can enjoy spectacular beach, cliff and countryside walks right from the door. The pretty fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand are a couple of miles away, as is the Mount Edgcumbe Estate, with it's beautiful coastal gardens, which are free and open to the public all year round. The nearby village of Millbrook has good local shops, and there is a pedestrian ferry from Cremyll to the historic Stonehouse area of Plymouth should you wish to be more cosmopolitan. There is a fabulous restaurant, and a great cafe a short walk along the cliff.
